Privacy policy

Recipe Q is designed to keep your recipes private. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the app and this website.

Last updated: 23 October 2026

No accounts or tracking

The app has no sign-in, ads, analytics or third-party data collection.

Stored privately

Your recipes stay on your iPhone and, if enabled, in your own iCloud account.

You stay in control

The developer cannot view your recipes, photos or other content in the app.

Your recipes and photos

Everything you add, including recipes, photos, collections, planned meals, shopping list choices and settings, is stored on your iPhone.

iCloud Sync is on by default. While it's on, the same data is also stored in your private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit, so it can sync between your devices. It is protected by your Apple Account and covered by Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy, and the developer has no access to it. You can turn iCloud Sync off in the app's Settings, under General.

Camera and photos

The camera is only used when you choose to take a photo, for example to scan a recipe. Text is read from photos on your iPhone using Apple's on-device text recognition. When you pick photos from your library, the app only receives the ones you choose.

Importing a recipe from a web page

When you import a recipe from a link, Recipe Q downloads that page straight from the website to your iPhone and reads the recipe from it. For some sites it also asks the same website for the ingredient amounts, and while you review the import it may show the page's photo, loaded from the website. The website sees these requests as it would a visit from a web browser, and its own privacy policy applies. The link is not sent to the developer. Recipe Q keeps the link with the recipe so you can go back to the source.

Calendar and Reminders

Recipe Q only uses these if you give it permission, and you can withdraw permission at any time in iOS Settings.

  • Calendar: the app lists your calendars so you can choose one, adds events for meals you plan, and removes the events it added when you change or cancel a plan. To find those events again, it looks in the calendar you chose around the date of the planned meal.
  • Reminders: the app lists your reminder lists so you can choose one, adds ingredients to it, and removes the reminders it added.

These events and reminders are kept by Apple's Calendar and Reminders apps and sync however you have set those up. Recipe Q doesn't send them anywhere else.

Apple Intelligence features

On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, Recipe Q can create a photo for a recipe with Apple's Image Playground, and suggest emoji for a recipe, ingredient or collection using Apple's on-device language model. These features are provided by Apple. The developer doesn't receive what you ask for or what they create.

Sharing recipes

When you share a recipe or a collection, Recipe Q creates a file and hands it to the iOS share sheet. It goes only where you choose to send it.

Recipe Q+ subscriptions

Recipe Q+ is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and your Apple Account, and the developer doesn't receive your payment details or who you are.

To know whether you subscribe, Recipe Q asks Apple from your iPhone and remembers the answer there. The free plan's limits are worked out on your iPhone too, by counting your recipes and collections. None of this is sent to the developer.

You can manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in Recipe Q's Settings under Recipe Q+ → Manage Subscription. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.

Diagnostics

To help fix problems, Recipe Q keeps a log on your iPhone. It records things like timings, errors, and the names of recipes and collections. It does not record your notes, ingredients, method steps or scanned text. iOS also gives the app crash and performance reports, which are added to the same log. The log stays on your iPhone unless you export it yourself from Settings → About → Diagnostics and choose where to send it.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings (Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give the developer crash reports and usage statistics, as described in Apple's privacy policy.

Deleting your data

  • Delete a recipe, collection or photo in the app and it is removed from your iPhone and, with iCloud Sync on, from iCloud.
  • Deleting the app removes its data from your iPhone.
  • To delete the app's data from iCloud, go to iOS Settings → your name → iCloud and manage your storage. The exact wording varies between iOS versions.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking. It loads its font from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address as it would for any web request.

Feedback and messages

You can send the developer a message through the contact form on this website, or with Send Feedback in Recipe Q's Settings. Either way, your message, and whether it came from the app or the website, are sent to the developer through the website's host, Netlify. Feedback from the app also includes the app version.

The website's form asks for your name and email address. In the app they're optional, so you can send feedback without saying who you are. Add your email if you'd like a reply: without it, the developer can't answer.

This information is used only to understand and reply to your message. To have a message you sent deleted, ask through the contact form.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
